Fastnet is in town once again. The 608 nautical mail race sees stunning yachts race from Cowes to the Fastnet rock (off the south-west coast of Ireland) around the Isles of Scilly finishing up at Plymouth.
We were lucky enough to have one of the boats (Malizia) crew come in to see us for some foam cut to size for their bunks and sleeping spaces before they cross the Atlantic on the next leg of their adventures.
Interestingly enough the boat (Malizia) is the very same that will be transporting Greta Thunburg across the Atlantic to get her across to the UN climate action summit all with zero carbon emissions.
They wanted to improve the comfort of existing suspended bunks and also create some comfort in a V like space (replacing some uncomfortable bean bags).
Our foam team worked with them to produce some comfortable mattresses made to size for their spaces.
They unfortunately didn't have much time to get the job done but we managed to have the foam cut the next morning (after them coming in the previous afternoon). Unfortunately there was not enough time for us to produce some bespoke waterproof boat mattress covers for the foam but maybe they can get that done in the next port.
Being situated in Plymouth we often work with boat owners and crew to replace existing foam or re purpose areas of boats to come up with new sleeping and seating solutions. If you have a job you want quoting give us a call or email 01752 345678 info@putnams.co.uk.
We are lucky to offer many grades of foam at different densities, we can also produce cut to size mattress toppers that can make any boat mattress less lumpy, firmer or softer depending on your needs.
